This page is dedicated to my best friend, Kim
Cherished Friend

God must have known there would be times
We'd need a word of cheer
Someone to praise a triumph
Or brush away a tear.
He must have known we'd need to share
The joy of "little things"
In order to appreciate
The happiness life brings.
I think He knew our troubled hearts
Would sometimes throb with pain
At trials and misfortunes
Or some goals we can't attain.
He knew we'd need the comfort
Of an understanding heart
To give us strength and courage
To make a fresh, new start.
He knew we'd need companionship
Unselfish...lasting...true,
And so God answered the hearts' great need
With a Cherished Friend like you.

Her name is Kim, and she is my very best friend!
It is very strange how we met. Our sons, Jesse and Adrian, went to school together since 3rd or 4th grade. We started getting phone calls for her family members, at our house. Our last name is Stoner, and her maiden name is Stoner. Funny thing is, they started getting our mail. We both had similar addresses. Our house numbers were the same, but the street addresses were different. That is how we met.
Jesse and Adrian tried to get us to get together, but with life the way it is, there was always something else going on.
Then Kim moved to Texas for 3 years. Adrian came up a couple of times, and spent a few weeks with Jesse.
Kim and I had spoken on the phone a few times, usually to complain about our kids or to find out if they were at her house or mine.

Little did I know how important this woman would become in my life.
Our relationship changed on the night of May 30, 2000. That was the night that my son and his friend Jason were murdered. They were shot to death in the back seat of a friend's car. Also in the car, but uninjured, were 3 other young people, including Kim's son Adrian. We just thank the Lord, that no one else was harmed. When all of this happened, we had several people to help us through the beginning of our nightmare. They have all since moved on with their lives. Kim, on the other hand, has been my only constant and steadfast friend. She was there during all of the trial. She was there when I found out that I had breast cancer (which was on the second day of the trial). She was there for all of my surgeries and doctor appointments. She was there to take my husband to all of his doctor appointments when he was in a vehicle accident. She has been there through the laughter and the seemlessly endless days of tears. I know that I can count on her to understand how I am feeling, when no one else can. She doesn't tell me to get on with my life and move on. She knows that will happen, when the time is right for me. She is supportive in everything I do. She doesn't avoid me or roll her eyes, when I mention Jesse. She was and is as close to Jesse, as I am to Adrian and Tavis, her other son. They are like our children, collectively. What has effected me, effects her and vice versa. When I lost my Jesse, so did she.
I don't only call Kim my friend, I call her sister. I love her with all of my heart, and will be eternally grateful to God, for blessing me with her presence in my life.
I love you, sissy.
